Kalonzo pours cold water on claims of Wiper-UDA alliance
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued a response dismissing reports suggesting a possible merger between his party and President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
In a Facebook post on Friday, July 18, 2025, Kalonzo, in a brief but emphatic message, reiterated that Wiper remains firmly in the opposition and committed to its own political course.
“#NoUDAWiperMerger, #WANTAMisREAL,” Kalonzo stated.
His post echoed a similar message shared earlier by the Wiper Patriotic Front’s official X account, which also quashed the speculations.
“#NoUDAWiperMerger, #Wantam,” the party declared.
Wandayi’s rallying call
The denials came shortly after remarks made by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who suggested the possibility of Kalonzo working with both Raila Odinga and President Ruto in future national efforts.
Speaking during the flagging off of electrification materials in Kitui County on July 18, 2025, Wandayi expressed optimism about future political cooperation.
“I respect Kalonzo Musyoka very much; he is a very good friend of mine. I respect him very much, and going forward, I am confident that Kalonzo will work together with Raila Odinga and President William Ruto to move Kenya forward,” he stated.

Wandayi further urged citizens to dialogue with leaders, arguing that it is the best way to resolve emerging issues.
“It is very important that citizens and leaders work together. When people talk, solutions are found. That is why, at this time, if there are any problems, citizens must just talk. It doesn’t cost anything. Talking, dialogue is free,” he added.
Failed leadership
Kalonzo’s position follows a sharp critique of the Ruto administration just a week earlier, where he dismissed the President’s performance and questioned his eligibility for a second term.
During a televised interview on July 9, 2025, Kalonzo said many Kenyans had lost faith in government promises and are now rallying behind a “One Term” campaign.
“In fact, Kenyans are saying, why should you people be giving us manifestos? … What you’re saying is you want the agenda you should, and we believe it’s one term. That’s the only agenda we think we believe. You can tell us after that what else you think you want to do,” Kalonzo remarked.
He stressed that the opposition has a constitutional mandate to mobilise against what he called failed leadership.
“The United Opposition has come out to say it is their constitutional right to remove a person who has failed to deliver on the electorate,” Kalonzo noted.

The Wiper leader accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of betraying the hustlers who had pinned their hopes on Ruto’s campaign pledges.
“William Ruto and his team came in saying, we will help mama mbogas. We will help youth get employment. We will make sure that we kick poverty in the teeth,” Kalonzo said.
“But this country now, a lot of Kenyans, I can tell you, have dropped below the poverty line. And you know the poverty line internationally is described as anybody who is earning less than a dollar a day. And a dollar today is translated to 120 shillings, 130 shillings,” Kalonzo stated.
