Saboti Member of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has distanced himself from reports that he had exited the Linda Mwananchi movement, maintaining that he remains a member of the political outfit led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

Speaking during an interview with a local podcast aired on Sunday, July 26, 2026, the outspoken lawmaker said he is the founder of the Linda Mwananchi movement, describing it as his ‘baby’.

“First of all, there is a misconception that I left Linda Mwananchi. I am still part and parcel of the movement. It is my baby. I have always said that I am the founder. People think I am joking until they realise it is actually true. I am the founder of Linda Mwananchi. Therefore, I am bound to protect it and make sure it stays true to its original vision because I originated the idea.

“When I say some people did not understand the assignment, I know exactly what the assignment was. The assignment is that Kenyans want President William Ruto to go, but they are tired of the legacy politicians.”

Amisi defended his continued criticism of the movement, saying that as its founder, he has a responsibility to protect it and offer guidance whenever he feels it is straying from its original vision. He insisted that his criticism should not be interpreted as abandoning the movement.

Although he recently announced that he would be installed as the party leader of the People’s Renaissance Movement (PRM), Amisi maintained that the party remains part of the broader Linda Mwananchi formation.

The Saboti legislator also addressed his recent absence from Linda Mwananchi rallies, including the latest rally held in Trans Nzoia County, which took place in his own constituency.

He said attending every rally is not a requirement for one to remain a member of the movement

This comes at a time when Amisi has increasingly distanced himself from the movement. He has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the direction Linda Mwananchi has taken and has announced plans to launch a new political outfit, the Renaissance Movement, also known as the People’s Movement.

“Linda Mwananchi did not understand its initial assignment and has deviated from its original course. That is why I want to form a new movement that will continue with the struggle,” Amisi said.

According to Amisi, the new movement will focus on ensuring the election of credible and visionary leaders to Parliament.

He argues that Linda Mwananchi has gradually abandoned the principles upon which it was founded and has instead embraced aspects of the political culture it initially sought to challenge.

The Saboti MP maintains that the Sifuna-led outfit has lost sight of its original mission. As one of the movement’s founders, he says he will continue championing its initial cause outside the Linda Mwananchi framework.

Amisi insists that the Renaissance Movement will place greater emphasis on parliamentary leadership by supporting the election of a new generation of credible lawmakers.
