ODM and UDA set to receive lion’s share of political parties’ funding

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are set to pocket a lion’s share of the Political Party Funding (PPF) in the revised allocation.
Despite the Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, informing parties that the budget has been slashed for the 2024/25 financial year, UDA and ODM will receive a total of Ksh736 million.
According to the gazette notice dated June 5, 2025, UDA is set to receive Ksh480,290,411, while the ODM will receive Ksh256,558,712.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by sections 23, 25 and 34 (b) of the Political Parties Act (Cap. 7D) and Regulation 6 (c) of the Political Parties (Funding) Regulations 2019, the Registrar of Political Parties gives notice that the Political Parties Fund (PPF) faced a budget cut during the Supplementary Estimates No. II of Financial Year 2024/25, which has necessitated a review of the distribution of the Fund,” the notice read in part.

Other parties
From the notice, the former ruling party, Jubilee, will walk away with Ksh112,530,209, while the Wiper Democratic Movement, led by the former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, has been allocated Ksh60,101,143.
Martha Karua, who recently spearheaded the rebranding of her former party, NARC-Kenya, into the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) is set to pocket Ksh6,290,464 for her outfit.

Eugene Wamalwa’s outfit, Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K), is set to receive Ksh26,333,970.
Affiliate parties in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition have also received a considerable allocation from the Political Party Funding for the 2024/25 financial year.
Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Forum for Restoration of Democracy (FORD-Kenya), will receive Ksh21,520,978, Chama Cha Kazi, affiliated with Moses Kuria, will pocket Ksh5.4 million, Mwangi Kiunjuri’s the Service Party (TSP) has been allocated Ksh8,782,483.

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party (MCCP) has been allocated a paltry Ksh10,546,046 while the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) has been allocated Ksh9,571,671.
The United Democratic Movement (UDM), which ditched Azimio for Kenya Kwanza after the 2022 polls, has been allocated Ksh22,372,524.
Old political parties like Kenya National African Union (KANU) will pocket Ksh20,005,804, while Kenya African Democratic Union-Asili (KADU-ASILI) will get Ksh399,327.
The notice has all the parties eligible to receive the funding and the amount allocated.
