Margaret Kenyatta salutes veteran broadcaster Muthoni Likimani in colourful celebration

Former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has paid a glowing tribute to veteran educator, author, and broadcaster Muthoni Likimani, describing her as a trailblazer who used her voice to uplift women and communities across Kenya.

During a colourful centenary celebration held at Zereniti House, RedHill, Limuru, on Monday, October 21, 2025, Kenyatta joined family, friends, and admirers of Likimani to mark the pioneer’s 100th birthday.

The event, which coincided with Mashujaa Day, brought together members of the clergy, professionals, and community leaders who came to celebrate a woman whose legacy has touched generations.

According to a statement from the Office of the 4th President, Kenyatta hailed Muthoni Likimani as a trailblazer. “Kenyatta praised Shujaa Likimani as a trailblazer and national treasure whose life and work continue to inspire generations of women across Kenya,” the statement reads

She praised the centenarian’s courage and dedication at a time when few women had the opportunity, or the platform, to lead from the front. Kenyatta lauded Likimani.” She lauded her unwavering commitment to uplifting communities and championing the voice of women at a time when few dared to do so,” the statement reads

The celebration was not just about marking a birthday, but also reflecting on a life that has influenced Kenya’s cultural, educational, and social fabric. Muthoni Likimani, described in the statement as “Muthoni Likimani; an educator, author, broadcaster, and mentor, has dedicated her century-long journey to nurturing young minds and advancing gender equality,” the statement reads

The former First Lady’s presence at the celebration added weight to the event, which underscored the role of women like Muthoni Likimani in shaping Kenya’s post-independence identity and pushing boundaries for women’s participation in national development.

“Her life’s story stands as a testament to resilience, service, and the power of purpose-driven leadership,” the statement reads
