Kinangop Member of Parliament Zac Kwenya Thuku has announced the death of his father, Mzee Kwenya, describing him as a pillar in his life and a respected figure in the community.

The Jubilee Party lawmaker shared the news through a heartfelt Facebook post on Sunday, May 10, 2026, paying tribute to a man he said greatly shaped his personal life and values.

“Dad, you have departed the physical realm, gone to live eternally with your maker whom you served,” Thuku wrote.

He went on to describe his father as a loving parent, mentor and teacher who guided him throughout his life.

“This wonderful soul, my loving dad, my instructor, disciplinarian, my first preacher and teacher, my mentor and role model,” the MP added.

Mzee Kwenya, also known locally as Mr Thuku Kwenya, was widely recognised for his contribution to education in Nyandarua County. He worked as a teacher and played a key role in the growth of Muruaki Secondary School during its formative years.

According to residents and former students, he served as the PTA chairman at the institution and helped support its development when the school was still struggling to establish itself.

Several mourners who commented on the MP’s post remembered him as a committed educationist and community leader.

Leaders send condolences

Leaders also joined residents in sending messages of condolence to the Kinangop legislator and his family.

Nyandarua Senator John Methu described Mzee Kwenya as a respected community figure who strongly supported education in the region.

“I’ve woken up to the very sad news of the passing on of Mzee Kwenya, father to our Member of Parliament,” Methu stated in his tribute.

“A man I know, a respected community leader and an ardent supporter of education. My mother tells me during her days at Rugongo Primary, Mzee Kwenya was the fulcrum around which the institution operated,” he added.

Condolence messages continued to pour in on Sunday as family, friends and constituents mourned the late educationist while awaiting details of the burial arrangements.
