Kenya Power announces planned power maintenance across multiple regions
The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has announced a scheduled power maintenance exercise set to affect several regions across the country on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
The utility firm, in a statement released on Tuesday via its official X dated August 26, 2025, urged residents and businesses to prepare for temporary outages as part of routine network upgrades.
The announcement, titled “Planned Power Maintenance Scheduled 27th August 2025”, lists specific areas and times for the interruptions, highlighting KPLC’s commitment to improving the reliability of the electricity supply.

Nairobi set for day-long outages
In Nairobi, the maintenance will affect parts of Ruaka and Umoja 3. In Ruaka, areas including NYS Headquarters, Utalii Village, St Benedict’s Catholic Church, and parts of the GSU Headquarters will experience power outages from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Similarly, Umoja 3 will face disruptions affecting major establishments such as the Coca-Cola Factory, Super Loaf, and Double M during the same period. Residents and businesses are advised to plan accordingly to minimise disruption to their activities.
North Rift and Western regions
The North Rift region will also be affected, with Uswo Village in Elgeyo Marakwet County scheduled for a power cut from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Meanwhile, in Western Kenya, Kisumu County’s Chemeili Factory and Potopoto areas, including Kowawa Centre and Mombwo Girls, will face outages from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Vihiga County residents in Mbale Town and Chavakali, as well as Busia County’s Nangoma region, will experience disruptions starting at 8:30 AM and 9:00 AM, respectively, lasting until 5:00 pm. Landmarks such as Broadpark Hotel and Nangoma will be affected, with the outages extending to nearby customers.
KPLC urges preparedness.
KPLC emphasised the importance of the exercise, noting that it forms part of broader infrastructure upgrades critical to ensuring a stable and reliable power supply. The company serves over 9.6 million customers nationwide and continues to prioritise maintenance activities to enhance service delivery.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to make necessary preparations, including safeguarding appliances and planning around the scheduled interruptions.
