Kenya Army Commander joins Museveni to celebrate UPDF anniversary

Kenya Army Commander Lieutenant General David Ketter represented the Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, at the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) in Kabale District, Uganda.

In a statement shared on X on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) described the anniversary as a celebration of the UPDF’s foundation and a reminder of the armed forces’ role in promoting national stability.

“Commander Kenya Army Lieutenant General David Ketter, on behalf of Chief of the Defence Forces, General Charles Kahariri, attended the 45th Tarehe Sita Anniversary Celebrations of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) in Kabale District, Uganda,” KDF stated.

The celebrations were held at the National Teachers’ College Playground and brought together President Yoweri Museveni, senior government and military leaders, veterans, and members of the public from across the region.

“The event, marking the historic foundation of the UPDF, was held at the National Teachers’ College Playground and was attended by the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni, senior government and military leaders, veterans and members of the public from across the region,” the statement added.

KDF explained that the anniversary, themed “Defending the Gains of the Revolution and Honouring the Sacrifices of the Freedom Fighters: A Call for National Unity, Peace and Socio-Economic Transformation,” highlighted the role of disciplined armed forces in safeguarding sovereignty, promoting stability, and supporting national development.

“Celebrated under the theme ‘Defending the Gains of the Revolution and Honouring the Sacrifices of the Freedom Fighters: A Call for National Unity, Peace and Socio-Economic Transformation,’ the occasion underscored the enduring role of disciplined armed forces in safeguarding sovereignty, promoting stability and supporting national development,” KDF said.

The anniversary featured a military parade, cultural performances, tributes to fallen heroes, Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities, and tree planting, symbolising patriotism, resilience, and service.

“The celebrations featured a military parade, cultural performances and tributes to fallen heroes symbolising resilience, patriotism, the enduring spirit of service, Civili Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities, tree planting among others,” the statement explained.

KDF emphasised that the presence of the Kenya Army Commander reinforced strong bilateral ties between Kenya and Uganda and reflected a shared commitment to regional security and mutual prosperity.

“The presence of Commander Kenya Army reaffirmed the strong bilateral ties between Kenya and Uganda and underscored their shared commitment to regional security and mutual prosperity,” KDF concluded.
