From architect to lawmaker: The journey of late Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho
From shaping Kenya’s built environment as a qualified architect to representing constituents in the National Assembly for over a decade, the Ol Kalou Member of Parliament, David Njuguna Kiaraho, embodied a seamless transition from professional expertise to dedicated public service.
His impactful journey came to an untimely end on Sunday, March 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of diligence in both fields.
Early life and education
David Njuguna Kiaraho was born on October 2, 1963 in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County. He began his education at Munyeki Primary School before proceeding to Park Road Primary School, where he earned his Certificate of Primary Education in 1977.
He completed O-Level studies at Alliance High School from 1978 to 1981, followed by A-Levels at Nairobi School between 1982 and 1983.
He then enrolled at the University of Nairobi, graduating with a Bachelor of Architecture degree after studies spanning 1985 to 1993.
Kiaraho’s professional career was firmly rooted in architecture. Since 1994, he served as Principal Architect at Archgrid Systems, overseeing a wide range of architectural and interior design projects. His expertise in infrastructure developments later enhanced his contributions in Parliament, particularly on matters relating to transport, public works, and housing.

Political Career
Kiaraho entered elective politics during the March 2013 General Election, winning the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat on a Jubilee Party ticket. He retained the seat in 2017 and again in 2022, defeating a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) challenger to secure his third term.
During his tenure in the 11th, 12th, and 13th Parliaments, he served on the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works & Housing (later Transport & Infrastructure) and the Procedure & House Rules Committee.
His death came months after joining other Nyandarua leaders in advancing the county’s development agenda.
On January 20, 2026, he participated in a meeting at State House, Nairobi, with President William Ruto and fellow county leaders, discussing initiatives including universal healthcare, agricultural production, affordable housing, road upgrades, electricity and water connections, expansion of JM Kariuki Referral Hospital, and infrastructure improvements at Nyandarua University.
Death and legacy
Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, formally notified the House of Kiaraho’s demise in Notification No. 002 of 2026.
He noted that the late MP passed away at around 1:20am while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, with some reports indicating he had sought treatment in India. The Speaker conveyed condolences to the family and announced a Funeral Preparation Committee led by Hon. Kwenya Thuku, MP, assisted by Hon. Faith Gitau, CBS, MP, and seven other members.
David Njuguna Kiaraho’s life illustrated a purposeful path from principal architect to three-term MP for Ol Kalou Constituency. He served the National Assembly and his constituents with dedication until his passing at the age of 62.
