Boniface Mwangi urges Ruto to act on GBV Task Force report after Rachel Wandeto’s death
Human rights activist and presidential hopeful Boniface Mwangi has pressured President William Ruto to implement the recommendations of a 42-member Presidential Task Force on GBV and Femicide in honour of Rachel Wandeto.
In a statement on his official X account on Monday, May 18, 2026, Mwangi made his remarks after the death of Rachel Wandeto, who recently drew national attention after tattooing President William Ruto’s image on her body.
“In honour of Rachel Wandeto, President Ruto should immediately implement the recommendations of the 42-member Presidential Task Force on GBV and Femicide,” Mwangi explained.
On his part, Mwangi has demanded that Ruto declare GBV and Femicide a National Crisis.
“Declare a National Crisis: Formally declare GBV and femicide a national disaster, Criminalise Femicide, Make femicide a distinct, standalone offence under the law, Ban Informal Settlements,” Mwangi explained.
At the same time, Mwangi has asked Ruto to outlaw out-of-court family negotiations and settlements in cases of domestic abuse.
“Outlaw out-of-court family negotiations and settlements in cases of domestic abuse. Establish Specialised Units: Create dedicated GBV and femicide police units. Regulate Rental Lodgings,” he said.
In addition, Mwangi has demanded mandatory CCTV installation and strict guest registration in short-term rentals such as Airbnbs.
“I call on the police to swiftly arrest the perpetrators of this heinous murder. Anyone exploiting Rachel Wandeto’s death to incite violence should equally be arrested and prosecuted,” he added.

Wandeto’s demiss
His demands come after Gospel singer Rachel Wandeto, who recently drew national attention after tattooing President William Ruto’s image on her body, died while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital following a brutal attack in Mwiki, Kasarani, Nairobi.
Wandeto had been admitted in critical condition after suffering extensive burn injuries, on May 16, 2026, when she was attacked by unknown assailants who doused her with petrol before setting her ablaze.
Medical personnel had been fighting to save her life after she sustained severe burns covering a large part of her body, leaving her in intensive care for several days.
She was initially rushed to a nearby hospital before being transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital due to the seriousness of her injuries, where she later succumbed.
Attack Linked to Viral Ruto Tattoo
The attack came just weeks after Wandeto went viral for tattooing President Ruto’s face and political slogans associated with his leadership on her chest and other parts of her body.
Rachel Waneto’s tattoos had sparked heated debate across social and political circles, with some praising her bold expression while others criticized her actions.
