Ugandan opposition leader and presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, faced the wrath of state operatives as his entourage was violently disrupted by Ugandan police and the country’s army officers while heading to campaign in Gulu ahead of the 2026 national elections.

In a disturbing video of untold violence shared online by the National Unity Platform (NUP) leader on Saturday, December 6, 2025, a horde of uniformed and uninformed military officers and police are seen blocking the road as the entourage of the opposition candidate sought to access the road.

Mayhem

The scenes quickly descended into mayhem as blows and clubs were used on the opposition supporters, forcing the team to scamper to safety.

The presidential candidate was only left with a handful of supporters and personal bodyguards, who put their bodies on the line, electing to expose their backs to the whip of the clubs as they formed a protective ring around the opposition leader.

Scores injured

According to reports from the scene, at least five supporters of the National Unity Platform were injured by street gangs armed with bottles and machetes.

His closest confidant, Daniel Oyirwoth, also known as Sir Dan Magic, was seen bleeding from the side of his head after the fierce confrontation with gun- and stick-wielding security operatives.

There were also reports of vandalism of cars and other campaign property at the venue.

The violent confrontation came after a heavy contingent of the state security apparatus had earlier blocked the opposition team, blocking the road to Gulu.

Wine and his convoy were forced to walk for about 5 km to the rally venue.

Uganda polls

In a bold yet defiant statement afterwards, Bobi Wine accused President Yoweri Museveni of orchestrating the ruthless act and committing crimes against humanity.

He, however, vowed to soldier on, stating that a time must come when people will have had enough of his brutal acts.

“This is how the military brutalised us in Gulu! The world must not look on as Museveni continues to get away with all these crimes against humanity. A time must come when ENOUGH IS ENOUGH,” he said.

The landlocked East African country is set to head to the polls in January 2026.

Museveni is set to face off against the Ugandan pop star in the presidential election, as he eyes extending his term to 2031.
