Babu Owino: Harambee Stars’ fight made every Kenyan proud
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has penned a heartfelt tribute to Harambee Stars following their CHAN 2024 elimination, stating that the team’s spirited performance made the entire nation proud.
In a statement posted on his X account on August 23, 2025, the legislator addressed the national team directly, calling on the players to maintain their dignity despite the quarter-final exit.
He emphasised that their elimination should not overshadow the inspiration they provided to millions of Kenyans throughout the tournament.
“Hold your heads high. You played with heart, grit, and passion, and you made the entire nation proud,” Babu Owino wrote.

Uniting the nation
The MP highlighted the broader impact of the Harambee Stars’ CHAN journey on the Kenyan public, noting how the team’s performances transcended football to unite the country.
“Every match you fought inspired millions, and every goal you scored brought us together,” he said.
According to Babu Owino, the quarter-final elimination did not reflect the team’s true capabilities or character.
“A quarter-final exit doesn’t define your talent or spirit,” he stated.
The Embakasi East MP framed the tournament experience as part of a larger journey rather than a conclusion, projecting optimism about the team’s future prospects.
“This isn’t the end; it’s a step on the path to something greater. Thank you for giving it your all. We believe in you today, tomorrow, and always,” he declared.

Elimination
Babu’s tribute comes in the wake of Harambee Stars’ elimination in the quarter-finals of CHAN 2024, where they lost 4-3 on penalties to Madagascar following a 1-1 draw in regulation and extra time.
Making their debut in the competition, Kenya had taken the lead early in the second half through Alphonce Omija’s header, but Madagascar equalised in the 68th minute through a Fenohasina Razafimanana penalty, forcing extra time and eventually the decisive shootout.
