A fresh political power struggle is taking shape in Ol Kalou days after the conclusion of its parliamentary by-election.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina Nyagah has met President William Ruto and accepted responsibility for supervising national government projects in the constituency.

Muchina disclosed the meeting in a statement on Facebook on Tuesday, July 21, 2026.

“Today I had the privilege and honour of meeting H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, just a few days after the conclusion of the Ol Kalou Parliamentary By-Election,” Muchina wrote.

He said their discussion focused on Ol Kalou’s development priorities and the constituency’s political future.

The move creates two emerging centres of power. Sammy Kamau Ngotho is the elected Member of Parliament. Muchina, however, has positioned himself as Ol Kalou’s direct link to State House and government development.

Muchina accepts project supervision role

Muchina said Ruto assured him that 36 electrification projects would continue.

He also listed houses for vulnerable families, boreholes, Nyandarua University and JM Kariuki Hospital among the projects set for completion.

Others include Ol Kalou Stadium and ongoing road construction.

“I am pleased to inform the residents of Ol Kalou that the President assured me that the following key projects will continue and be completed for the benefit of our people, and I will personally supervise their implementation,” Muchina said.

That declaration places him on a possible collision course with Ngotho.

The political contest will centre on who represents Ol Kalou’s development interests. Ngotho holds the electoral mandate. Muchina has secured continued access to the President and government projects.

Muchina can now remain visible through project inspections, community meetings and engagements with government officials.

Every completed road, borehole or electricity connection could provide him with a platform to rebuild the UDA network that suffered a heavy defeat.

Former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria had previously assured Ngotho that government projects would continue despite the UDA defeat.

Muchina’s meeting with Ruto has introduced a different arrangement. He now says he will personally monitor those projects.

That raises the possibility of political competition over development credit.

Muchina signals unfinished 2027 contest

Muchina has not formally declared his candidacy for the 2027 General Election. However, his language indicates that he considers the contest unfinished.

“Although our victory was postponed, our commitment to the people of Ol Kalou remains unwavering,” he said.

The statement provides Muchina with an early campaign framework. He can use the projects promised during the by-election as a development scorecard against Ngotho.

Ngotho enters the contest from a position of electoral strength.

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate won with 35,440 votes. Muchina received 5,450 votes. The margin was 29,990 votes, according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission results.

The scale of that defeat means projects alone will not guarantee a UDA recovery. The party launched an extensive development campaign before the by-election but still lost decisively.

However, Muchina now has more than a year to convert government delivery into political support.

Ol Kalou therefore has an elected opposition MP and a defeated government candidate presenting himself as the constituency’s development supervisor.

That is the foundation of a fresh power tussle ahead of 2027.
