Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has effectively aligned with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and his Linda Mwananchi movement.

Although the Bungoma gubernatorial hopeful is yet to make an official announcement, on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, Wanyonyi’s campaign vehicles traversed various parts of Bungoma County, mobilising residents and publicising Sifuna’s upcoming homecoming.

The campaign artwork also featured Wanyonyi endorsing the Nairobi senator’s presidential bid, further fuelling speculation that he has formally aligned himself with the movement.

Earlier in the day, Sifuna, who leads the Linda Mwananchi movement, revealed during an interview on a local media station that he has been holding talks with Tim Wanyonyi.

Expressing confidence in his political outfit, Sifuna declared that the next Bungoma governor will come from the Linda Mwananchi movement.

“I have had meetings with Tim Wanyonyi. I have met Zachariah Barasa and all those people, including senate aspirants from Bungoma – very many aspirants – but one thing that I know is that whoever will be elected as Bungoma governor in 2027 will be from Linda Mwananchi,” Sifuna declared.

The Nairobi senator further disclosed that he is also engaging several other Bungoma gubernatorial aspirants, including former Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and Zachariah Barasa, who have since left the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K).

According to Sifuna, the growing number of influential leaders joining his camp demonstrates that the movement is well-positioned to capture the Bungoma governorship.

The developments come just days after Wangamati, who had initially been preparing to seek a second term as governor, appeared to abandon those ambitions after aligning himself with the Linda Mwananchi movement and hinting at a possible Senate bid instead.

Tim Wanyonyi’s apparent move also comes months after he publicly distanced himself from his brother, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford Kenya party.

Wanyonyi maintained that while he remains interested in the Bungoma governorship, he would contest on any other party ticket except Ford Kenya, citing the violence witnessed during the Kabuchai by-election, which many critics blamed on supporters of the Speaker’s party.

Sifuna’s homecoming

The latest political realignments come ahead of Sifuna’s highly anticipated Bungoma homecoming, with several politicians abandoning Eugene Wamalwa-led DAP-K to join the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Most of them have declared that whichever political party Sifuna eventually fronts will be the vehicle they use to contest various elective seats in the 2027 General Election.

Sifuna has also recently intensified his attacks on Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, accusing him of repeatedly disrupting his rallies and funeral meetings by leading supporters out immediately after making his speeches.

He insisted that Barasa’s actions will not stop him and boldly declared that the Kimilili legislator will never become Bungoma governor.

Waluke’s next political move

Attention has now shifted to Sirisia MP John Waluke, a close ally of Tim Wanyonyi and one of Sifuna’s fiercest critics. Waluke has previously warned Sifuna against setting foot in his constituency to popularise the Linda Mwananchi movement.

With Wanyonyi now appearing to have crossed over to the opposition camp, many are keenly watching whether Waluke will remain in his current ‘Tutam’ camp or eventually follow his long-time ally into the Linda Mwananchi movement.
