The National Police Service has confirmed that a multi-agency security team has received two illegal firearms and ammunition voluntarily surrendered by members of the public from Angata Barrikoi in Narok County.

In a statement on Monday, June 29, 2026, NPS said the surrender was part of ongoing multi-agency security operations aimed at restoring peace, improving public safety and removing illegal weapons from communities affected by insecurity.

“The recovery of the firearms contributes significantly to reducing the threat posed by illegal weapons, preventing their potential use in criminal activities, and fostering a safer environment for residents to pursue their daily socio-economic activities without fear,” NPS stated.

Police said the latest surrender showed growing cooperation between security agencies and residents in the fight against crime and insecurity in the area.

NPS urged individuals still holding illegal firearms to surrender them to the nearest police station under the ongoing disarmament efforts.

“The National Police Service remains committed to sustaining security operations, co-ordinating with other agencies, and engaging communities to ensure that all residents continue to enjoy a secure environment founded on partnership, trust, and shared responsibility,” the statement added.

The latest development comes weeks after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen visited Kabusa in Angata Barrikoi, where he issued a seven-day ultimatum to residents in parts of Narok and Migori counties to surrender illegal firearms.

Murkomen said illegal weapons had fuelled cattle theft, tension and insecurity along the border areas, adding that the government would intensify security operations against those involved in livestock theft and illegal arms.

Angata Barrikoi has remained a flashpoint following deadly clashes reported in 2025 over land-related disputes and later insecurity linked to cattle rustling and inter-community tension.

The late Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno was among the leaders who publicly confronted the situation after residents were killed during the 2025 clashes.

His confrontation with police officers at the scene drew national attention to the crisis.
