5 nabbed as police intensify criminal gangs crackdown in Dandora

Police in the Dandora area in Nairobi County have arrested five persons of interest believed to be members of a criminal gang involved in a spate of mobile phone snatching, robberies and stealing Kenya Power token meters after a fresh operation in the area.

Confirming the incident through a statement on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) has stated that the persons of interest were nabbed on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, as part of an intelligence-led operation by officers of Dandora Police Station in the Nairobi region.

“Police officers based at Dandora Police Station within the Nairobi Region yesterday, 26th May 2026, conducted a targeted operation which culminated in the arrest of five suspects believed to be members of a criminal gang that has been terrorising residents through mobile phone snatching, robberies, and the theft of Kenya Power token meters within the estates,” the NPS statement read in part.

The service has further confirmed that the operation was set up based on intelligence reporting and a stepped-up policing effort against organised criminal gangs in the estates.

“Acting on credible leads, the officers raided a mobile phone repair shop located in Dandora Phase III, a premise now believed to have been operating as a concealment and distribution point for stolen property,” the NPS statement added.

In the raid, the NPS reported that its officers seized 21 mobile phones of various makes and models thought to be stolen from members of the public in snatching incidents or as a result of robbery within the area.

The police also found 12 Kenya Power token meters believed to have been stolen from residential homes.

According to the National Police Service, the operation comes as part of an overall attempt to crush organised criminal groups that operate in Nairobi.

The five persons of interest are being held in police custody for further investigation before they head to court.

Police commitment to public safety

The National Police Service restated its pledge to continue efforts to combat crime and improve public safety in the city.

Again, the police called on the public to keep cooperating with security personnel by providing information to the nearest Police Station, emergency numbers or via their toll-free numbers
