Police have apprehended two persons of interest and seized 220 litres of illicit chang’aa during a targeted operation in Kibra, Nairobi County, as security agencies intensify the fight against the manufacture and distribution of illegal alcoholic drinks.

Writing on X on Monday, July 20, 2026, the National Police Service (NPS) said the operation was carried out by officers in the Kianda 42 area of Kibra within Kilimani Sub-County. During the raid, officers recovered 220 litres of chang’aa believed to have been intended for illegal distribution within the area.

“The officers conducted a targeted raid within the Kianda 42 area of Kibra, arresting two male suspects and confiscating 220 litres of Chang’aa,” the NPS statement read in part.

The two persons of interest were taken into police custody to assist with investigations.

According to the NPS, the seized alcohol was secured as exhibits, while the individuals are expected to undergo processing before being arraigned in court.

Sustained crackdown on illegal alcohol

Police said the latest operation is part of an ongoing nationwide campaign aimed at dismantling networks involved in the production, distribution and sale of illicit brews.

The law enforcement agencies have continued to conduct intelligence-led operations targeting individuals suspected of participating in the illegal business.

The National Police Service noted that such enforcement efforts are intended to protect communities from the harmful effects associated with illicit alcohol while ensuring those found violating the law are brought to justice.

Public encouraged to share information

As the crackdown continues, police have appealed to members of the public to support the fight against illicit brews by reporting suspicious activities within their neighbourhoods.

Police emphasised that public cooperation remains critical in identifying illegal brewing dens and disrupting criminal networks involved in the manufacture and sale of unlicensed alcohol.
