Either some individuals in the Kenya Kwanza administration have decided to use Kenya as a guinea pig for their political theatrics or they simply found themselves in leadership and don’t know what to do with it.

From the secretive Adani deals being rammed down Kenyans’ throats and schemes to extend the presidential term to the haphazardly implementing the Social Health Insurance Fund, Kenyans seem to have been abandoned by the very leaders they elected to serve them.

Little is going right in health, education and the economy. Apparently, only politics seems to be vibrant in Kenya. Last week, Kenyans were treated to several political dramas, among them the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and a proposal by Nandi Senator Senator Cherargei to amend several sections of the Constitution besides seeking to  extend the presidential term.

The bill also proposes the creation of an Office of the Prime Minister, similar to a proposal made in the National Dialogue Committee and the Building Bridges Initiative reports, raising questions about the motive of the proposal, given that it had already received support from the powers that be.

In the same bill, the Senate would be involved in approving the deployment of the Kenya Defence Forces in any part of the country, a role that is effectively handled by the National Assembly.

With the deactivation of the NHIF system on October 1, the technical hiccups that came with the new system have caused untold suffering for thousands of patients as hospitals unable to process claims demanded cash.

The health system is apparently dysfunctional, to the detriment of the common mwananchi who relies on public health facilities.

Ditto the education sector, where preparations for the Grade Nine transition are in a shambles, while learning in public universities is in disarray as a result of the recently introduced new funding model.

With the cost of living out of hand for the majority of Kenyans, the ruling class has sadly embarked on campaigns for 2027.

No one seems to be bothered about the challenges ordinary Kenyans are enduring. Just when will Kenya Kwanza honchos stop playing politics and start serving Kenyans?

For how long will Kenyans continue being used as guinea pigs in what is becoming Kenya’s political chess? President Ruto and his team must put their acts together, end their political theatrics and start serving Kenyans.
