Lawyer Willis Otieno has said that while leaders like Edwin Sifuna and Babu Owino are reflecting the frustrations of many Kenyans, their resistance alone is not enough to shape the country’s future.

He pointed out that the public mood is being read correctly by those opposing the current direction of governance, but warned that action without a plan could lead to confusion, saying resistance alone is not a political program.

“The likes of Sifuna and Babu are reading the public mood correctly by pushing back against Ruto’s WANTAM trajectory. Many Kenyans are clearly frustrated and are looking for voices willing to confront the current direction of governance. On that front, they stand on the right side of public sentiment. But resistance alone is not a political program. Removing or opposing a regime cannot be the final destination; it must be the beginning of a clearly thought-out alternative,” Otieno stated.

He further stressed that Kenyans are looking not only for opposition but for a detailed alternative that addresses the country’s economic and governance challenges. He added that replacing leadership and leaving out policy will lead to disappointment.

“Kenyans don’t just want the wantam journey stopped; they want to know what comes after it: the economic plan, the debt strategy, the jobs blueprint, the governance reforms. Because history has taught this country a painful lesson, that replacing leadership without replacing policy only resets the cycle of disappointment,” he said.

Otieno concluded by urging that the energy mobilised by Sifuna and Babu’s resistance be channelled into creating a concrete agenda rather than mere agitation.

“The energy they are mobilising now must therefore evolve into an agenda, not just agitation, otherwise wantam will end, and confusion will begin,” he added.
