Wamuchomba declares support for Babu Owino’s Nairobi governor bid
Githunguri Member of Parliament (MP) Gathoni Wamuchomba has publicly declared her support for her Embakasi East counterpart Babu Owino in the race for the Nairobi County gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election.
Taking to her official Facebook page on Saturday, March 14, 2026, Wamuchomba congratulated Babu Owino following his recent address to the Kikuyu community during his interview with Kameme FM, describing his message to Nairobi voters as persuasive and sincere.
“Congratulations My Brother @ Babu Owino, on your address to kikuyu Nation yesterday. Your appeal to Nairobi Voters is persuasive and genuine, not based on ethnic machinations,” Wamuchomba stated.
She further affirmed that Owino’s ambition to lead the capital city is legitimate and should be judged on merit rather than ethnic considerations.
“Your dream is Valid. Indeed, Nairobi County will NOT be reprimanded on who to vote for,” she added.
Wamuchomba also declared that if she were a voter in Nairobi, she would cast her ballot for the Embakasi East legislator.
“You have all takes, Fight on Muthoniwa! Mimi Niko huku kwa Ruto nawachungia Mali~ Mkisoota munasema tunawasukuma. Ningekuwa wa Nairobi ningekuchagua!” she stated.

Tribalism
The outspoken MP emphasised that the country should move away from ethnic-based politics, urging unity among Kenyans while backing Owino’s bid.
“Team ni Moja, Kenya ni yetu, Ukabila Tawe!” she said.
In the same message, Wamuchomba signalled that Owino would have her political backing in the upcoming contest.
“Hon Babu Owino has my support for Governor Wa Nairobi,” she said.
She further expressed confidence in Owino’s leadership and called for protection and support for the legislator as he pursues the position, terming him Muthoniwa, which, in Kikuyu, refers to a son-in-law.
“Muthoniwa lazima Alindwe na hii Nyakinyua,” she added.

Babu Owino’s Nairobi gubernatorial bid
Babu Owino, who has served as Embakasi East MP since 2017, is eyeing a possible run for Nairobi governor in the 2027 elections.
Known for his outspoken style and strong grassroots support, the legislator has continued to build his political profile within the capital while declaring that the current governor, Johnson Sakaja, is unfit for office.
Wamuchomba’s endorsement adds to the growing political conversation around the race to succeed Sakaja, with various leaders already positioning themselves ahead of the next general election.
