Jubilee presidential aspirant Fred Matiang’i has held a meeting with the Linda Mwananchi team, including Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili (Babu Owino), Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, and Siaya Governor James Orengo, among other leaders.

The meeting has intensified political speculation after they were spotted in discussions with the team amid growing signs of early realignments of the two factions, the United Alternative Government with Linda Mwananchi ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a statement on his X account on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Matiang’i shared the pictures of the two leaders after the meeting, although they did not disclose what they all discussed.

“About today…” Matiang’i wrote on his X page after the meeting.

New political formations

The new meeting adds to the the new political front that seems to be forming ahead of the 2027 general election, with the United Alternative Government and the Linda Mwananchi movement showing signs of unity in their efforts to pose a serious threat to President William Ruto.

The emerging alignment is picking up steam, following comments by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who, during an opposition rally in Thika on Sunday, June 14, 2026, called for the opposition to look at unity and cooperation.

His comments are seen as part of an effort to rally anti-government opposition in the political landscape under one strategic front.

The Thika rally was also notable in the sense that Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata made a big political splash when he joined the Linda Mwananchi movement. The governor called on the movement to engage in dialogue with the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), Rigathi Gachagua, an indication that the talks are broadening to attempt to form a bigger political block.

Meanwhile, alternative government leaders have also shown an interest in a deal with ODM’s Linda Mwananchi, suggesting that there is greater interest in a formal coalition between the two groups, saying that the two sides have a common goal heading to the general elections in 2027.
