Wamalwa reaffirms DAP-K’s commitment to rule of law, party constitution
Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has reiterated the party’s unwavering dedication to the rule of law and the supremacy of its constitution, terming democratic principles the cornerstone of its operations.
Speaking after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at Chui House on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, Wamalwa unveiled a raft of resolutions aimed at strengthening unity, resolving internal disputes, and positioning the party for upcoming by-elections, even as it confronts a broader political standoff with President William Ruto.
Internal stability measures
Wamalwa announced that the NEC had established a nine-member Internal Dispute Resolution Committee (IDRC) to address emerging disputes within the party impartially.
“In line with the recommendations of the Party’s National Management Committee, the NEC has constituted a nine-member Internal Dispute Resolution Committee to decisively and impartially address emerging disputes,” he said, underscoring the party’s proactive approach to stability.

The NEC also resolved to uphold peace and focus on the by-elections scheduled by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
“The NEC further resolved to uphold peace, strengthen stability, and focus our full energy on the impending by-elections… by fielding stalwart, credible candidates and rallying the entire party leadership towards delivering resounding victories,” Wamalwa added.
The Malava parliamentary by-election is expected to serve as a key political battleground for the party.
Warning to Ruto
Wamalwa accused President Ruto of undermining multiparty democracy by co-opting parties such as ANC, Ford Kenya, and ODM in Western Kenya.
“We have our eyes open; we will not allow you to kill democratic parties such as DAP or undermine multi-democracy,” he declared. He further vowed that DAP-K would field a presidential candidate to challenge Ruto in the next election, describing the Malava contest as a “Waterloo” for the government.
Criticising Ruto’s leadership style, Wamalwa remarked, “You lack the vision of Jomo Kenyatta; you lack the humility of Daniel Moi; you lack the honesty and courtesy of Mwai Kibaki,” framing his remarks as a call for leadership rooted in respect and vision.
Unity ahead of by-elections
Wamalwa’s call for unity comes at a time when DAP-K has faced internal rifts. However, the NEC meeting concluded without hostility, with party leaders rallying behind figures such as Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.
“With our unity intact, our structures firm, and our commitment to the people unshaken, we are ready to deliver victories starting with Malava,” Wamalwa said, reaffirming that the party’s guiding principles would remain the rule of law and the supremacy of its constitution.
