Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu has extended an olive branch to members of other political parties and the opposition, urging them to come together and chart a new path that will help the country recover from the chaos caused by the loss of faith in the electoral system.

While speaking during the opening of the Parliament on Friday, November 14, 2025, she appealed to all political formations to reflect on past mistakes, correct them, and move forward in unity for the sake of peace and stability.

Kwa hivyo basi naomba makundi yote ya Watanzania, hasa vyama vya siasa, tuangalie tumekosea wapi, turekebishe, tuendelee na safari yetu ya taifa lenye amani na utulivu.” Suluhu said

With many Tanzanian youths having taken to the streets to protest the recent elections, President Suluhu announced a series of reforms aimed at helping young people recover from the events of the past months and steering the country toward healing.

She emphasised that the government will prioritise youth in development matters, noting that many youth-focused platforms have lost direction due to political interference and have failed to achieve their intended goals.

Also watch: Amnesty International had earlier sounded an alarm over escalating repression in Tanzania.

She revealed that the government is considering establishing a fully dedicated Ministry of Youth Affairs, replacing the current youth department that operates under a broader ministry with multiple responsibilities.

She added that the creation of a youth adviser position within the Office of the President is also under consideration to ensure closer attention to youth issues.

“Mimi na wenzangu serikalini tumefikiria kuwa na wizara kamili itakayoshughulikia masuala ya vijana. Tumeamua kuwa na wizara kamili badala ya kuwa na idara ya vijana ndani ya wizara yenye mambo mengi. Pia ninawaza kuwa na mshauri wa masuala ya vijana ndani ya ofisi yangu ya rais,” she added.

Plan for the youth

President Suluhu further stated that, as part of her administration’s early commitments, the government will take steps to increase capital for youth and women’s economic activities.

She announced the allocation of Ksh5.6 billion to support youth and women’s programs across the country.

Her remarks were met with applause and table-banging from parliamentarians, signaling approval for the proposed reforms.

The president’s announcement comes days after political analyst Herman Manyora urged her to initiate a clear national healing and electoral reform process or risk failing to complete her term.
