‘Let us give president room’ – MP Geoffrey Ruku pleads on picking Ruto’s new deputy if Gachagua is impeached
Mbeere North Member of Parliament Geoffrey Ruku has pleaded with different political factions to cease holding discussions on who would replace Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in case the impeachment motions sail through.
Speaking on Sunday, September 29, 2024, Geoffrey Ruku noted that he had seen some proposed names to take the role of deputising President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 polls and amid increased calls for Gachagua’s impeachment.
The vocal legislator told his constituents that Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is among those proposed to replace Gachagua.
However, Geoffrey Ruku pleaded with lawmakers to halt their plans and allow the parliamentary process to be concluded.
Further, implored them to give space to President Ruto to pick who he sees as the best-suited Deputy President.

“If that process succeeds (impeachment) then let the discussions on who will be the next Deputy President of Kenya start but starting that kind of narrative and discussions at the moment is premature, it is prejudicial because we are not sure what the courts will decide,” Ruku stated.
“Therefore, I am pleading with leaders who have started convening meetings to front candidates to take up the Deputy President position, to wait for the decision from the National Assembly and the Senate.”
“Let us give the President of the Republic of Kenya the room when that time comes to appoint whoever he thinks is the most appropriate to help him and be his principal assistant,” he added.
Impeachment
The MP claimed that plans to impeach DP Gachagua are being finalised ahead of tabling in the coming weeks.
He added that Kenyans will know what the second in command is being accused of when the impeachment motion will be tabled in the National Assembly.
His sentiments come as DP Gachagua continue to send warnings against kicking him out of office through an impeachment motion.
In a series of rallies in his Mt Kenya backyard, the DP has maintained that he was elected on a joint ticket with President Ruto and thus only the people of Kenya have the authority to send him home.

He however lamented that money had been poured to MPs to sign his impeachment motions.
On Sunday September 29, 2024, Gachagua after a church, asked the faithful to pray for his boss and the entire Kenya Kwanza administration.
“It is my hope that sanity will prevail, we tone down on politics of division and we work for Kenyans. We were elected two years ago and we have not yet done the work that we promised to do,” Gachagua noted.
