Potential boost for Gachagua and DCP as Wangui Ngirichi hints at joining party
Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has declared her possible alignment with the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), associated with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking during a public gathering on Thursday, June 18, 2026, Ngirici showed her commitment to the new political formation, saying leaders in the opposition party had agreed on the party’s nomination process and insisted that the DCP would conduct free and fair nominations for aspirants.

“Nimesikia wamesema hakuna mtu amepewa tikiti ya DCP; nitakuja tumenyane na wale wako uko. Tumeambiwa na wenyewe wakubwa wa chama kwamba hakuna mtu amepewa certificate, kwa hivyo mimi Wangui Ngirici niko hapo,” Ngirici declared.
Loosely translate: “I have heard them say that no one has been given a DCP ticket. I will come and compete with those who are there. We have been told by the party leaders themselves that no one has been given a certificate, so I, Wangui Ngirici, am right there,” Ngirici declared.
Ngirici’s defence on DCP and Jubilee
The former governor has been defending the two parties with huge followings in the MT Kenya region, stating that the Democracy for Citizens (DCP) party, the Jubilee Party, and other formations within the united opposition represent what the majority of Kenyans want.

In a statement shared on her social media handles on Sunday, May 10, 2026, the Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful, who has been traversing the county through her Ziara Mashinani tours, said that this was the clear outcome from her engagements with residents.“The feedback I’m receiving from Ziara Mashinani has been overwhelmingly positive, as outlined herein: 1. Wantam is the minimum. 2. DCP, PLP, JUBILEE, WIPER, DP & UMP represent what the people want. 3. We shall walk together as the people of Kirinyaga. Let’s continue engaging. ~ PWN”, Ngirici said.
Ngirici’s declaration too vie

While speaking during a forum in Kirinyaga County in Karima on Friday, May 1, 2025, the Kirinyaga gubernatorial hopeful, who was recently sacked as the chairperson of Kenya Seed Company after switching camps and declaring her allegiance to the Wantam movement, stated that her 2022 independent bid was extremely draining.
She noted that the experience informed her current decision to seek a political party as her vehicle to realise her gubernatorial ambitions, saying that running as an independent was difficult and unsustainable.
“Siendi independent; last time niliona kupata kura na independent ni ngumu, nilinganganga sana.“
