The former Deputy Chief of Staff held a meeting with the Deputy Chairman of the Luo Council of Elders at his Uyoma home in Siaya County on Monday, May 4, 2026.

In a statement shared on his social media pages, the presidential aspirant stated that they discussed a wide range of issues aimed at fostering unity of purpose within the community, upholding positive cultural values, and mentoring the youth.

Owalo has been holding consultative talks with different groups at his home as a way of gearing up for his presidential ambitions. Earlier, he held a similar meeting with a delegation from Vihiga County, whom he referred to as “Friends of Owalo from Vihiga County”.

“This morning, I paid a courtesy call on the Deputy Chairman of the Luo Council of Elders, Mzee Steve Ayaga, at his rural home in Nyakongo, Uyoma, Siaya County. We discussed, among other issues, fostering development-oriented unity of purpose within the community, upholding positive cultural and moral values, and providing guidance and mentorship for the youth.”

He also hosted a delegation of leaders from Homa Bay, referring to them as “Friends of Owalo”, while other groups, such as those from Kakamega County, have also visited his home. This comes just days after announcing his presidential bid.

On the question of his political stronghold, since most aspirants have a backyard they rely on, Owalo hinted at the Nomino Church, which, according to him, has a membership of 1.5 million believers, as a base he can lean on. However, he insisted that his bid for the top seat is purely agenda-driven and based on issue-based politics rather than tribal support.

Owalo also recently revealed that he will be launching his political party, which he will use as his political vehicle, in the course of May 2026.

Owalo’s party

The presidential hopeful urged leaders whom he described as progressive to use his party ticket to contest for various seats.

He continued with his strong criticism of political party zoning, saying it undermines the 2010 Constitution.

He noted that the country cannot claim to be in a multiparty environment while in some regions people are subjected to what he termed aspolitical monopoly, where those who fail to secure party tickets are locked out of the political space.

“We cannot be in a multiparty environment as ensured in our 2010 constitution. Yet in some parts of the country, we want to subject our people to a politically monolithic one-party system, where if you don’t get the country ticket, then you fall by the wayside. So we must have a multiplicity of parties,” Owalo stated.

During his tours across the country, he has reiterated that if elected, his leadership will focus on what he terms the third liberation, which he believes should be economic liberation.

He has stated that during his tenure, he will scrap the value-added tax, which is currently at 16 per cent; the import tax; and the digital tax currently charged on creatives, in a bid to spur the economy, which he believes is lagging, with the current regime doing little to address it.
