Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has warned Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya that his political actions will face consequences ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking during a Community Engagement Forum in Namagara, Malava, on Saturday, November 22, 2025, Mudavadi cautioned Natembeya against actions that could backfire and signalled that political challengers are already preparing to contest the county in 2027.

“Ndugu yetu, anatoka kule trans nzoia. Anakuja hapa anasema, anasema maneno anasema. Nataka nimwaambie, ukiwa kwa nyumba ambayo ina vioo, madirisha ya vioo, usirushe mawe. Kwa sababu pia wewe unaishi kwa nyumba ya vioo,” he said.

“Tukifika 2027, sisi tuna vijana tayari watasimama governor Trans Nzoia. Nakwaambia, utatembea tu Trans Nzoia. Tutakupangia, kwa sababu sisi pia ni wanasiasa.Usifikiri ati unazunguka hapa, we shall have candidates. Tutakuzungusha, na watakung’oa. We are politicians.”

Tensions rise in Trans-Nzoia

The warning came on a day of heightened political tension in Trans-Nzoia County. Earlier on Saturday, Majimbo Kalasinga, MP for Kabuchai, reported that his home in Chwele had been attacked and vandalised after hosting Natembeya during a campaign event. Windows of the two-storey house were broken.

Natembeya blamed Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula, claiming the attacks were orchestrated by goons sent to intimidate him.

“It is sad that a leader in the national assembly is the one doing these things-sending goons to destroy the home of an MP because of different political ideologies,” Natembeya said.

Former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati also condemned the attacks, calling them a sign of desperate times. The DAP-K party issued a statement demanding action from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and security agencies.

Earlier, Natembeya’s rally in Chwele was disrupted by gunfire and tear gas, forcing attendees to flee. He cited a similar incident in June during a tour with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, when one of his MCA supporters was injured.

Natembeya criticised Wetang’ula, saying the Speaker, instead of defending the law, was suppressing opposition voices and denying them a fair political platform.

Meanwhile, two politicians have already launched bids for the Trans-Nzoia gubernatorial seat in 2027. Former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa declared his intention to run, emphasising inclusivity across the county and respect for the Luhya community.

Former Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha also announced her bid, stating she would represent the entire county rather than a single ward, citing constitutional rights for all Kenyans regardless of gender.
