Mbadi: It would be unjust if Luo community does not produce a president in 2032

Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has sparked fresh political debate after declaring that it would be an injustice if the Luo community fails to produce Kenya’s president in the 2032 General Election.

While speaking during an empowerment programme in Siaya County on Saturday, July 11, 2026, Mbadi said he was among leaders prepared to champion the community’s quest for the country’s top seat once President William Ruto completes his constitutional term.

“If there is injustice that we’ll do to our Luo people, it is failing to produce a Luo president in 2032. I am one of those people who are ready. I have studied politics under Raila and completed it,” Mbadi said.

Mudavadi’s presidential quest

In the neighbouring Mulembe region, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is also preparing to take over the mantle from President William Ruto in 2032 should he manage to be re-elected for his second term in 2027. While dismissing any possibility of being Ruto’s running mate in 2027.

Mudavadi said he had already served as Kenya’s vice president and that the only position he now aspires to is the presidency. He emphasised that he is not seeking any office below that.

“I am not interested in the running mate slot; I aim to be the president in 2032,” he said.

His remarks came amid growing calls from leaders in the Western Kenya region, led by former Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, who urged President Ruto to pick the UDA deputy party leader and former Amani National Congress (ANC) leader as his running mate in the next election. \

Governor Sang endorses Kindiki

Elsewhere, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has thrown his weight behind Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to succeed President William Ruto when his second and final term comes to an end in 2032.

Speaking during the Kaptagat Conservation Programme in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the second-term governor said Kenya would be in safe hands under Kindiki’s leadership once President Ruto exits office.

“We are seeing the work you are doing as deputy president; when Ruto exits the country, it will be in safe hands under your leadership,” the governor said.
