Moses Kuria drags Gachagua’s name in the heckling of Lamu Woman Rep
Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader Moses Kuria has fingered former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after Lamu County Woman Representative Monicah Muthoni Marubu was booed at the funeral of Alice Wangari Gakuya, mother of Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya, at Makomboki village in Murang’a County.
Taking to his official X account on Saturday, January 3, 2026, Kuria accused Gachagua of plotting to cause violence at the funeral.
Kuria argued that he had left the funeral after learning of a scheme to cause violence against those opposed to the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader.
“I have just left Makomboki, where I had gone to condole with Hon James Gakuya as we laid to rest his dear mum, Alice Wangari Gakuya. I left when I learnt of a plot to cause violence against those perceived to be opposed to Rigathi Gachagua,” Kuria stated.

Gachagua blamed
The former President William Ruto’s Senior Economic Advisor further accused Gachagua of assaulting Marubu, who was jeered when she took to the podium to address the mourners.
“What I did not know is they could go to the extent of assaulting a woman – Lamu Women Rep Muthoni Marubu. I have asked before whether Jomo Kenyatta, Mwai Kibaki or Uhuru Kenyatta could order violence against women. Mr Rigathi Gachagua, you are a coward, a despot and a dangerous man. From today prepare for battle royale. You have crossed the red line,” Kuria wrote on X.

Lamu Woman Rep heckled
The funeral took a tense turn when Marubu took the microphone and expressed political support for President Ruto in a highly charged manner.
She began her address with condolences. She thanked a previous speaker, Munyoro, and spoke directly to the Gakuya family.
“Kwa familia ya rafiki yangu Bazenga, kwanza nasema pole kwa kupoteza mama,” she said. “Najua mama ni kitengo muhimu sana katika familia. Langu ni kuwaomba tafadhali wewe na ndugu zako muendelee kushirikiana.”

She then introduced herself, stating she is the Woman Representative for Lamu County and is known as Muthoni.
“Originally, my parents are from here, Murang’a, Maragua.” She praised the local infrastructure, noting the smooth roads and electricity supply, contrasting it with challenges in Lamu.
“Mimi nimefurahishwa na stima mko nayo hapa. Nyinyi watu wa Mt Kenya West, nimekuja kurealize nyinyi Wakikuyu wa Mt Kenya West, mungu anajua sisi Wakikuyu wa diaspora hatufanani. Shida zetu sio kama shida zenu. Ingawa wazazi wetu walitoka huku, nyinyi mnaonekana mshafika Singapore,” she said.
The mood shifted when she moved to politics.
“Mimi kama Muthoni, mimi nawaambia mimi sio wa Wantam. Mimi ni wa Tutam kwa sababu… Mimi Muthoni ni wa Tutam.”
Her remarks provoked an immediate reaction from mourners. Videos shared online showed people heckling and booing her, disrupting what was meant to be a solemn funeral service.
