Mombasa Governor and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir has vowed to camp in Kasipul Kabondo until the party’s candidate, Boyd Were, is declared the winner in the upcoming Malava by-election slated for November 27.

Speaking during a roadside rally after presenting the candidate to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices on Wednesday, October 8, 2027, Nassir revealed that he has assigned Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga to find him accommodation in the county.

He added that he has already bid farewell to his constituents in Mombasa and is ready to campaign for the son of the late MP until he succeeds his father, who was shot dead near the Nairobi City Mortuary by armed assassins who trailed him from Parliament to the scene of the crime.

The governor promised Boyd Were that he would personally act as his returning officer and agent to ensure that he wins and takes his rightful place in Parliament to represent the people of Kasipul Kabondo, who have been without a representative in the August House.

Nimetafuta nyumba Kasipul niishi mpaka tarehe ishirini na saba siku tutaapisha Boyd Were; mimi ndio agent wako, mimi ndio returning officer wako, nitahakikisha umeshinda!” Governor Nassir said.

This comes after the ODM bandwagon stormed the county to escort the aspirant to the IEBC offices. The motorcade, painted entirely in red, was led by Governor Nassir, ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, and several other top ODM figures.

Kasipul by-election

The developments come amid heated campaigns in Kasipul Kabondo, with Boyd Were now set to face strong opponents such as businessman Philip Aroko, who has received open support from Mumias East MP Peter Salasya.

“Thanks so much, my followers, for connecting me to my favourite incoming MP, Hon. Philip Aroko, a very cool and focused man. We shall be landing in Oyugis very soon. Kasipul, we love you,” Salasya said.

Aroko has also intensified his campaigns in the constituency, vowing to ensure that ODM does not clinch victory in the November 27 mini-polls.
