Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has welcomed leaders of the United Opposition to Kisii and Nyamira ahead of a three-day political tour in the region.

In a statement on Friday, February 20, 2026, the Jubilee Party deputy leader confirmed that the tour will bring together principals, leaders, and supporters of what has recently been rebranded as the United Alternative Government.

The visit, scheduled to run from Monday, February 23, 2026, to Wednesday, February 25, 2026, will see the opposition team hold a series of engagements across the two counties.

According to Matiang’i, the leaders intend to meet residents on the ground, listen to their concerns, and present what they describe as a clear recovery plan aimed at steering the country back on track should they assume power.

“We welcome all principals, leaders, and supporters of the United Alternative Government to the great counties of Kisii and Nyamira. From Monday 23rd to Wednesday 25th, we’ll be on the ground engaging residents, listening to their concerns, and outlining our clear plan that will drive our country back on track when we take over the reins of power,” Matiang’i said.

The former CS indicated that momentum for political change is gaining traction across the country and framed the tour as part of efforts to consolidate a national movement capable of mounting a serious challenge in next year’s elections.

He maintained that the opposition is working to build a broad-based alliance that can deliver electoral victory and usher in leadership that prioritises the interests of all citizens.

Gachagua’s kisii tour itinerary

Earlier, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said that while en route to Kisii and Nyamira counties, he will make a stopover in Narok town to thank locals for voting for his DCP candidate in last year’s by-election, David Masikonde.

He further added that his entourage will proceed to Mulot in Bomet County, where he will greet residents of Mulot town before making his way to Bomet town for another stopover to greet the people there.

He also stated that the Kipsigis community truly misses him and that they have been sending him messages complaining about how the current regime has been treating them since he was impeached from his position.

He would then proceed to connect with Matiang’i in Kisii.
