Lawyer Kibe Mungai hits out at Kenya Kwanza, praises Uhuru’s record
Lawyer Kibe Mungai has launched a scathing critique of the Kenya Kwanza administration, comparing it unfavourably to the record of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking on a local TV station on September 29, 2025, Mungai accused the current government of deflecting blame onto Uhuru Kenyatta.
“When evidence is presented that things are not actually as rosy as they try to project, their immediate excuse has always been Uhuru Kenyatta, that they inherited a mess,” he said.
Policy concerns
Mungai highlighted what he described as widespread public dissatisfaction, noting, “The talk of the streets is evident that things were better during Uhuru’s regime, there was Linda Mama and things seemed to work, capitation used to get to schools, life was not difficult in terms of taxation.”
He emphasised that Uhuru’s recent distancing from the current government’s failures has fueled public unease. “When Uhuru said he has nothing to do with the current government’s failures, it was, of course, going to cut deep, hence the panic,” Mungai said.
He added that the current administration has been less responsive to citizens’ concerns. “There was an element in which Uhuru used to listen to Kenyans when they cried out, and change policies, but the Kenya Kwanza government is stone-deaf.”

Economic challenges
The lawyer raised issues affecting citizens under the current administration, citing economic hardship and a rising suicide rate linked to economic stress.
“We are suffering taxation, we have a suicide epidemic in Kenya, when you dig deep, they are economic related,” he said.
On national debt, Mungai warned, “The debt issue which they try to magnitude and deceive Kenyans is going too far.”
He also referenced President Ruto’s recent international engagements, suggesting that the focus on building markets and houses fell short compared to other leaders’ substantive achievements.
Support for Uhuru
Mungai’s defence of Uhuru’s record comes amid support from figures such as Moses Kuria, leader of the Cama Cha Kazi Party and a former advisor to President Ruto. Kuria, through his X handle on September 28, emphasised the importance of multiparty democracy, stating, “Uhuru Kenyatta has every right to express his views about everything and anything. Uhuru Kenyatta has every right to promote the Jubilee Party as the Party Leader. I stand with Uhuru Kenyatta.”
Uhuru recently presided over the Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Conference on September 26 at Ngong Racecourse, where he highlighted past achievements in infrastructure, electricity, and social programs like Linda Mama. He expressed concern over the replacement of these programs with new initiatives, noting that while experiments continue, Kenyans face challenges and progress is slowed.
