Kirinyaga County Assembly invites interested persons to apply for Speaker position
Anyone interested in vying for the position of Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker has until 5 pm on Saturday, September 17, 2022, to submit nomination papers as well as credentials to the office of the clerk at the Kirinyaga County assembly buildings in Kerugoya town.
This is according to details posted on the Assembly’s website indicating that the seat will be declared vacant during the first sitting of the newly elected MCAs mid-next week.
“The office of the speaker shall be declared vacant upon the first sitting of the county assembly on Wednesday, September 21 at 10:00 am. Interested persons qualified to be elected (as Speaker) are therefore invited to submit their nomination papers,” the information on the website reads in part.
The first sitting is set to take place on Wednesday, September 21 2022.
“Nomination papers can be collected from the office of the clerk of the county assembly at the county assembly of Kirinyaga, Kerugoya offices during working hours,” the notice directs.
The MCAs, both elected and nominated are expected to be sworn in during the first sitting and then proceed to elect the Speaker of the House.
The third Kirinyaga County Assembly is expected to comprise about 32 members.
Out of the total number of 32 MCAs, at least 20 of them were elected to represent 20 wards in Kirinyaga county at the county assembly during the August 9 general elections.
The remaining 12 MCAs have been nominated according to the strength of various parties represented at the Kerugoya-based legislative House.
