‘Uhuru hana haja ya kuongea’ – Kioni tells Gachagua over proposed talks
Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has slammed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over a proposal to have a dialogue with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking to K24 TV, Kioni termed the proposal as a lack of respect for the former President, who has been silent on political affairs.
“I have heard him (Gachagua) say he is looking for Uhuru for dialogue. Uhuru does not need dialogue. He led Kenya, finished his term and left. You got the seat (through whatever means you did), lead in your own style,” Kioni said.
“You have insulted people since 2017… planting the seed of hatred. You stole sheep at Northlands. Now want Uhuru for dialogue?”
According to Kioni, the Kenya Kwanza coalition could be facing political difficulties, which has forced Gachagua to seek dialogue with Uhuru.
The sentiments by Kioni come at a time when President William Ruto seems to be differing from his Deputy in terms of political direction.
On Friday, Gachagua said he will seek to heal the region that was somewhat divided following the 2022 general elections that saw Uhuru’s preferred candidate Raila Odinga lose.
“Uhuru was fronting Raila Odinga for the presidency but he lost. Regardless, we have decided to embrace him as our respectable son and statesman,” Gachagua said during his interview with a local news outlet.
Adding;
“As leaders from the region, we have also decided to stop fighting him and I’m planning to hold talks with him. I have asked everyone to accord him respect and I’m glad he has also been peaceful.”
Gachagua, who termed himself as the father of the Mt Kenya region, said he will make sure the region is united before 2027.
“I am at this moment the father of Mt Kenya nation and I can tell you we will be united by 2027,” he said.
