Kioni to Jubilee aspirants: Prepare to battle it out with DCP in Mt Kenya, not UDA
Jubilee Party Deputy Party Leader Jeremiah Kioni has warned that Jubilee Party aspirants in the Mount Kenya region are to be in a political showdown, adding that no longer will the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) play the main role, but a new political dynamic will take centre stage between the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) and the Jubilee Party.
Speaking in an interview with a local radio station on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Kioni said that the dynamics for influence have changed in the vote-rich region, requiring Jubilee to adapt its political approach before the next electoral cycle.
“The two parties that are going to battle it out in Mount Kenya, it’s no longer UDA in its form as we know it, but it’s going to be DCP and Jubilee, and if it’s not clear in the minds of those who want to run for seats within Jubilee, then they have not woken up. DCP is very clear that their opponent in the Mount Kenya region is Jubilee,” Kioni said.

Kioni has disputed the influence of the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), in the Mount Kenya region, urging the aspirants in the party to be ready to face off with former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP in the upcoming general elections.
Jubilee, DCP mountain rivalry
Kioni also pointed out that the DCP Party is already making a move to become Jubilee’s biggest rival in the region, indicating that the party has already identified Jubilee as its main political rival in Mount Kenya.

The statements are a sign of a possible shift in the political balance in the region, historically a national voting landmark.
Kioni has further observed that as parties realign in anticipation of the 2027 general elections, the question now turns to the political strategy Jubilee must adopt to deal with the new competition and if they will be able to hold onto their support base in the face of shifting alliances.
