Matiang’i raises fear of term limit removal if current regime retains power in 2027
Jubilee Deputy Party leader Fred Matiang’i has warned Kenyans to make informed decisions during the 2027 general elections, warning that political actors in the current regime could eventually push to remove presidential term limits.
Speaking during a public engagement in Kuria on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Matiang’i cautioned residents against making short-term electoral decisions that could have long-term consequences on governance and democracy.
He warned that continued support for leaders he accused of undermining democratic values could open the door to constitutional changes targeting term limits.

“Ukiona watu wanafanya namna hii, alafu mwaka ujao mwawapigie kura warudi huko, hawa watu wataelekea kutoa hata term limits, waanze kufanya uhasama kama ule unafanywa na hiyo serikali,” Matiang’i said.
Democracy for Kenyans
Matiang’i further urged voters to view upcoming elections as a critical moment in safeguarding the country’s democratic framework.

He insisted that constitutional safeguards, including leadership term limits, must be protected from political manipulation, warning that their erosion would fundamentally alter Kenya’s governance system.
“We are in danger. Mfikirie tukienda kupiga kura, msifikirie eti tunaenda kupiga kura eti ni hivi hivi, we are fighting for the soul of our democracy and our country,” Matiang’i stated.
Matiangi’s call for peaceful campaign
The Jubilee Deputy Party Leader has also called for peaceful campaigns as Kenya gears up for the highly anticipated General Elections in 2027.
Speaking on Thursday, June 4, 2026, during a political rally in Isiolo County, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary emphasised the need to have a calm and respectful campaign.

At the same time, he expressed his readiness to serve the Country as a Head of State.
“Kama ni siasa tunafanya Siasa ya amani, Siasa ya kuheshimiana sisi wenyewe, na hawa ndugu zetu na dada ambao wako kwa serikali tunawaheshimu laikini kama kazi inakua ngumu waondoke pole pole sisi tuko tayari kufanya hiyo kazi,” Matiang’i stated.
