The government has announced an expanded list of Huduma Centres where Kenyans can apply for new national identity cards in a move aimed at making registration services more accessible across the country.

In a public notice released on Friday, June 26, 2026, Huduma Kenya encouraged eligible Kenyans in need of a new national ID to visit designated Huduma Centres offering registration services.

The announcement is expected to benefit thousands of first-time applicants who have previously had to rely on National Registration Bureau offices or sub-county registration centres to begin the application process.

“Need a New ID? Visit These Huduma Centres,” the agency said in its notice.

Counties covered

According to Huduma Kenya, new ID application services are currently available at Huduma Centres in Baringo, Bomet, Busia, Elgeyo Marakwet, Embu, Eldoret, Garissa, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kakamega, Kericho, Kiambu, Kibra, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, and Kisumu.

Other Huduma Centres where Kenyans can get new IDs immediately are Kitale, Kitui, Kwale, Lamu, Machakos, Makadara, Makueni, Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nakuru, Nandi, Narok, Nyamira, Nyeri, Samburu, Siaya, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Vihiga, and West Pokot.

The rollout significantly expands access to ID registration services by bringing them closer to citizens in both urban and rural areas.

Boosting access to government services

A national identity card is one of the most important government-issued documents in Kenya, serving as proof of identity and citizenship.

It is required when opening bank and mobile money accounts, registering for government services, applying for passports, securing employment, accessing higher education opportunities, registering as a voter, acquiring a Kenya Revenue Authority PIN, and completing many other official transactions.

By decentralising registration through Huduma Centres, the government hopes to reduce travel costs, shorten waiting times and improve service delivery.

Relief for first-time applicants

The announcement is expected to be particularly welcome news for young Kenyans who have recently become eligible to apply for their first national identity cards.

In many parts of the country, applicants have previously had to travel long distances or contend with crowded registration offices to access the service.

With more Huduma Centres now processing applications, the government aims to make the process more convenient and efficient as the country heads into the 2027 General Election.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen had in July 2025 announced a groundbreaking technological intervention that would enable Kenyans to receive national identification cards within three days.

The move aimed at ending long-standing documentation delays, especially in marginalised regions.

What new ID applicants should know

Huduma Kenya has advised applicants to visit the designated centres to begin the application process and obtain guidance on the required documentation.

Applicants are encouraged to carry all necessary supporting documents to avoid delays during registration.

The agency has not indicated any deadline for the exercise, meaning eligible Kenyans can visit the participating centres during official working hours.

The latest announcement is part of the government’s broader efforts to enhance access to public services through the Huduma Kenya programme, which brings multiple government services together under one roof.

Over the years, Huduma Centres have become one-stop service points where Kenyans can access a wide range of services, including birth certificate applications, passport processing support, driving licence services, tax-related assistance, and National Health Insurance registration, among others.
