Joyce Bensuda: Leaders opposing broad-based govt are not sincere to Raila Odinga
Homa Bay County Women Representative Joyce Osogo Bensuda has stated that leaders against the broad-based government formation between the Kenya Kwanza regime and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are not being sincere to the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking in a local radio interview on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Bensuda said before his demise on October 15, 2025, Raila Odinga had shown the party a clear path to take going forward, which, according to her, was staying the current government formation.
Loyalty
”Anyone opposing the broad-based government now, and especially now that Raila is no longer with us, is not being sincere, because this government structure existed even before his passing.”
“During our meeting, Baba gave clear direction, explaining why we got into broad-based politics, that Gen Z needs to be listened to and that Kenya needs inclusivity,” Bensuda noted..

Referring back to the June 2024 anti-finance bill unrest, where the country’s younger population took to the streets to protest against the 2024 Finance Bill, Joyce Bensuda added that the broad-based government is working to resolve the issues raised by the youth last year.
”As a country, we took too long waiting for the Finance Bill to come before listening to Gen Z. The broad-based arrangement addressed Gen Z’s issues indirectly,” he added.
Staying beyond 2027
Bensuda’s remarks come as a section of political leaders within the ODM party have declared their support for President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, some vowing to back the Head of State and his vision beyond the next general election.
Led by Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, the leaders have vowed to remain intact in the broad-based government.
Lately, Kaluma has been vocal regarding the broad-based government formation between the Kenya Kwanza regime and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party. The lawmaker has declared that the partnership is unstoppable and will remain in place until 2032.
In a statement posted on his X account on Saturday, August 16, 2025, Kaluma expressed confidence in the longevity of the current political arrangement, insisting that the model reflects the will of Kenyans. However, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has been seen speaking contrary to Peter Kaluma and the like.
