Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hosted leaders of the Kiama Kia Ma, a council of Kikuyu elders, alongside a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) aspirant for the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat at his Wamunyoro home, saying the consultations are part of ongoing efforts to shape the country’s political future.

In a statement shared after the meeting on Thursday, July 2, 2026, Gachagua described elders as custodians of wisdom whose counsel is critical in guiding both community and national affairs.

“Elders are repositories of wisdom and foresight. They see far ahead and deliberate carefully before making decisions. They pause before speaking and scrutinise thoroughly before granting approval or rejection,” he said.

Kiama Kia Ma on political guidance

The former Deputy President said he received guidance from the leadership of the Kiama Kia Ma, whom he described as elders entrusted with steering the Kikuyu community on political, economic and social matters.

“I consider myself privileged to have received such wise counsel from the leadership of Kiama Kia Ma, the elders entrusted with guiding the Kikuyu community in matters of politics, economics, and social issues,” he said.

According to Gachagua, the elders’ counsel is aimed at safeguarding both the interests of the Kikuyu community and the country’s broader prosperity.

Need to protect community interests

He said the discussions also focused on the political roadmap towards what he referred to as the formation of Kenya’s “6th administration.”

“Through their counsel, I have been directed on the way forward in our journey to liberate our country, including the formation of the 6th administration,” Gachagua stated.

He added that the elders stressed the need to protect community interests while working in partnership with other Kenyans in pursuit of national unity and development.

“They have emphasised the importance of safeguarding community interests and working collaboratively with fellow Kenyans for the greater good of our beloved Kenya,” he said.
