Former Cherang’any Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny has officially registered as an aspirant for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election, formally ditching the Jubilee Party ticket he used in the 2022 polls.

Kutuny confirmed the move on Thursday, January 22, 2026, through a statement shared on his social media platforms, announcing that he had successfully registered as a UDA aspirant for the Cherang’any parliamentary seat—a seat he failed to defend in 2022 after losing to Patrick Simiyu of the Democratic Action Party.

In his message, Kutuny openly declared his allegiance to UDA, stating that President William Ruto’s led party is the way to go.

“Dear Joshua Kutuny Serem, you have successfully registered for the UDA aspirants forum for MP in Nzoia Cherangany,” the confirmation message from UDA read.

His registration comes after the UDA Party, through its National Steering Committee (NSC), held a meeting and, through the party’s chairperson Cecily Mbarire, officially launched UDA’s Aspirants’ Forum, a party-driven initiative that requires all politicians seeking the UDA ticket in 2027 to formally register through the party’s official website.

Upon registration, aspirants receive an automated confirmation message validating their application.

As part of the process, registered aspirants are also expected to hold a sit-down meeting with President William Ruto at State House on February 4, 2025, as the party begins early preparations for the 2027 General Election.

Kutuny’s parliamentary bid

Kutuny’s move comes shortly after he launched his comeback for the Cherangany parliamentary seat.

Speaking during a burial ceremony at Ziwa, Uasin Gishu County, on October 10, 2025, Kutuny expressed confidence in his political resurgence, citing his past record and recent appointments as key pillars of his campaign.

Kutuny lost the Cherang’any seat in the 2022 General Election to Patrick Simiyu of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K). Simiyu garnered 26,748 votes against Kutuny’s 5,312, while Wesley Korir of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) received 26,078 votes.

“I had not slipped out. I was trying to hustle with both sides, and I believed Uhuru, but nonetheless, Ruto recalled my efforts while with him and gave me chairmanship in the Kenya Copyright Board,” he said.

“In my previous term while working as the MP, my work was evident, and I know that you will vote for me for my work,” he added.

Message to supporters

He assured supporters of a strong comeback, stating, “Do not fret about Cherang’any, because once I bow, no one will stand against me. We will drive away both the governor and MCA back home.”

Kutuny urged residents to elect leaders capable of articulating issues effectively in various platforms, noting, “Be sure to vote for someone who can argue in different settings like parliamentary, senate, and other seatings; let us avoid the embarrassment like that of Kericho County.”
