President William Ruto is set to hold a meeting with all leaders elected on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at State House.

While speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, January 21, 2025, at the party headquarters, UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire made this announcement on behalf of the party.

She stated that the meeting, which will take place on Monday, January 26, 2025, will be a National Governing Council (NGC) meeting.

Which is comprised of all elected and nominated leaders, including members of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) who are members of the UDA party.

These include governors and their deputies, senators, women representatives, members of parliament (MPs), and members of county assemblies (MCAs) elected on a UDA ticket.

All are expected to attend the meeting, which will kick off at 8:00 a.m. and will be chaired by the President himself.

Mbarire further added that all members who were elected on the Musalia Mudavadi-led Amani National Congress (ANC) party, which folded and joined UDA, are also expected to join the high-level talks that will be taking place at the House on the Hill.

She also added that friends of the party are invited to get a glimpse of the NGC meeting.

“On Monday, the 26th of January, 2026, at 8 a.m., the National Governing Council (NGC) brings together all UDA-elected leaders and nominated leaders, including governors, deputy governors, senators, members of the National Assembly, women representatives, representatives of the East African Legislative Assembly, and members of county assemblies”

“The meeting will be chaired by the party leader, President William Ruto, at State House, Nairobi. That will be on Monday the 26th at 8 a.m”

The purpose of the meeting is to brief party-elected officials who form the NGC on the progress of the implementation of the UDA manifesto, which is dubbed the Plan.

“The National Governing Council shall receive a scorecard on the progress of the implementation of the government manifesto, which is the Plan, the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda”

Grassroot elections

They are also expected to be briefed on the grassroots elections that were held in various parts of the country on Saturday, January 10, 2025, with some areas set to conduct the exercise in March.

“Number two, they will receive a report from the National Elections Board on the party grassroots elections”

The third issue, which is expected to be a bone of contention, is the recently pushed talks by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on a pre-coalition pact with UDA. The UDA NGC is also expected to task the party leader, William Ruto, to initiate constructive talks with other parties such as ODM during their meeting on Monday.

“Three, they will ratify the National Executive Committee resolution mandating the party leader to commence structured negotiations with the ODM party ahead of the general elections.”

NEC meeting

This comes a week after the President chaired a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at State House to deliberate on the push by ODM, as well as being briefed on the grassroots elections.
