The Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, Hassan Ali Joho, has proudly said that the legacy of the late political enigma and father of modern Kenyan politics, Raila Amolo Odinga, will never fade.

Through a post on his X account on Sunday, October 19, 2025, just hours after Raila’s state funeral in Bondo, Siaya County, Joho said that the late ODM Party Leader’s values, courage, and vision would continue to inspire generations across the nation.

“Baba, your legacy will never fade. The lessons you selflessly shared will continue to inspire, guide and shape us even in your absence,” Joho wrote.

The former Mombasa governor, who served as one of Raila’s closest allies in ODM for more than a decade, said that Raila’s influence extended beyond politics, describing him as a leader who embodied courage, justice and an unshakeable belief in Kenya’s unity.

Joho said that Raila’s life was an extraordinary story of resilience and service, adding that his sacrifices and unwavering spirit would forever remain engraved in the hearts of Kenyans. “We will keep your fire burning in our hearts, Baba,” he added.

The Cabinet Secretary recalled how Raila’s leadership had inspired millions of Kenyans to fight for democracy, accountability and fairness.

He said that under Raila’s guidance, many leaders, himself included, learned that true leadership was about selflessness and conviction rather than personal gain.

Farewell to a national hero

“Fare thee well, Jakom. Rest where the great ones rest. Your spirit walks with us still,” Joho wrote, referring to Raila by his popular Luo title that translates to “Chairman.”

Raila’s state funeral, attended by President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and several African heads of state, marked the end of five days of mourning.

Thousands of Kenyans gathered in Bondo to witness his burial, celebrating the life of a man who defined Kenya’s democratic journey for more than four decades.

Joho’s tribute reflected the emotional mood across the country as Kenyans continued to honour Raila’s indelible mark on the nation’s political, social and moral fabric.

His words captured the sentiment of millions who still regard the late leader as a symbol of courage, reform and hope for a better Kenya.
