PHOTOS: Linda Mwananchi brings Kisii Town to a standstill
Kisii Town came to a near standstill on Friday, July 3, 2026, as thousands of residents turned out for the Linda Mwananchi movement’s high-profile tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties.
The opposition-linked civic engagement drive attracted large crowds at several stops, including Mosocho, Keumbu, Keroka and Kisii Town, where supporters lined the streets to catch a glimpse of the leaders.
The delegation included Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, former Chief Justice David Maraga, Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and Kitutu Chache South MP Antony Kibagendi.
The leaders addressed residents on governance, the cost of living, constitutionalism and accountability as the movement continued its nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
After the rally, Sifuna shared a brief reaction on his Facebook page, reflecting on the massive turnout in Kisii Town. Posting photos from the event, he wrote: “Kisii Town hamjui jokes?“

Crowds fill streets and market centres
One of the standout moments of the tour was the massive turnout in Kisii Town, where residents packed major streets, forcing traffic to slow as the convoy made its way through the town.
An aerial view captured thousands of people stretching across the streets, with supporters climbing onto vehicles and elevated structures to watch the proceedings. Others stood on balconies and rooftops overlooking the crowd while recording the event on their mobile phones.

In another scene, residents watched from the upper floor of a building as the procession passed below.
Two women leaned out of a window, waving and interacting with the crowd, with one holding a mobile phone while pointing towards the procession.

Several leaders addressed supporters while standing on the roofs of vehicles and elevated platforms surrounded by cheering crowds. Supporters responded by raising their hands, waving and recording the speeches on their phones.
The movement also passed through busy market areas, where traders and shoppers briefly paused their activities to watch the convoy.

The turnout extended beyond the town centre, with residents lining roads leading to the rally venues as the convoy travelled across different parts of Kisii County.
Leaders rally supporters
At the main rally venue, opposition leaders shared the stage as they addressed supporters gathered under tents and in open spaces.
A photograph from the event showed the delegation standing together on a raised platform with trees and white tents in the background as supporters listened from below.

During the rally, speakers addressed issues including governance, accountability, economic challenges and public service delivery.
Sifuna called for political change in Kisii County and endorsed Senator Richard Onyonka for the governor’s seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Former Chief Justice Maraga urged leaders to uphold constitutionalism and fight corruption, saying theft of public resources continued to undermine the country’s development.
Babu Owino spoke on unemployment, inequality and corruption, while James Orengo addressed supporters on governance and the political future of the opposition.
The Kisii-Nyamira tour proceeded without Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, one of the movement’s co-founders, who was absent from Friday’s programme.
Linda Mwananchi has been holding similar public engagements in different parts of the country to discuss governance, devolution, youth issues, accountability and constitutional reforms.
Friday’s activities in Kisii and Nyamira marked one of the movement’s largest regional turnouts to date, with residents turning out in large numbers throughout the day.
The tour concluded with leaders calling on supporters to remain engaged in public affairs as the movement continues its nationwide outreach ahead of the 2027 General Election.
