A prison warder working in Sotik, Bomet County, was found dead in a suspected love triangle, with police launching investigations into the circumstances surrounding her killing.

Abdi Kyle Chepkemboi, who was stationed and working in Sotik, was found dead, with detectives and other security agencies visiting the scene as they sought to establish what led to her death.

Sotik Sub-County Police Commander Sammy Choge said investigations into the incident had commenced, with officers working to establish what happened.

“Uchaguzi unafanywa, scene of crime wamechukua uchunguzi na tutawaelezea yote ambayo yametendeka,” Choge said.

Suspected love triangle

The death has sparked concern among residents, with preliminary reports pointing to a suspected love triangle as a possible motive. Police, however, have not released details linking any person of interest as investigations continue.

Chepkemboi’s death has also renewed concerns over gender-based violence and femicide in the region.

Bomet femicide alarm

Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei said the death was particularly worrying because it involved a young police officer.

“Bomet County is one of the leading counties in femicide and gender-based violence, alongside Homa Bay and Kericho,” Sigei said.

He described the death of the young prison officer as a worrying development, saying the circumstances surrounding her death must be fully investigated.

“A very young police prison officer has been killed, allegedly by her husband or boyfriend,” Sigei said.

Police launch investigations

Police officers and investigators are expected to examine the scene, record statements from people who may have information about the incident and establish the events leading to Chepkemboi’s death.
