A police officer has been arrested after officers recovered approximately 20 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa from a house in Dagoretti, Nairobi.

The arrest was made on Thursday, July 23, 2026, during an operation by officers from Muthangari Police Station following a tip-off from members of the public.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), officers raided the person’s of interest residence and recovered two bags containing six bales of cannabis sativa wrapped in yellow tape.

The person’s of interest was placed in police custody pending processing and arraignment in court to face relevant charges, while the recovered narcotics were secured as exhibits.

NPS vows action regardless of status

The arrest comes as police intensify operations against drug trafficking and other forms of criminality in Nairobi.

In a statement shared on its X account on Thursday, July 23, 2026, the NPS said it would continue enforcing the law without fear or favour.

“The National Police Service reaffirms its commitment to upholding the rule of law without fear or favour,” the service said.

It added: “Any person, regardless of status or position, found to be engaging in criminal activities will be subjected to due process.”

Police recover cannabis from phone snatching suspect

The latest arrest comes a day after police apprehended a person’s of interest linked to phone snatching incidents in Majengo, Nairobi.

Officers from Shauri Moyo Police Station intercepted the suspect on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, during a routine patrol in the area.

Police said the suspect was linked to a series of muggings in the Nairobi East Sub-Region and was intercepted while allegedly robbing a member of the public.

“The suspect was intercepted while violently robbing a member of the public and had already forcefully taken the victim’s mobile phone and KSh3,000 in cash,” NPS said.

A search led to the recovery of a toy pistol, a mobile phone and 152 rolls of suspected cannabis sativa.

NPS urges public to report suspicious activities

The recovered phone is believed to belong to the person who was robbed during the incident.

Police placed the suspect in custody pending processing and arraignment in court, while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.

The NPS said the operations demonstrated its continued efforts to combat criminality across the country.

“The National Police Service reiterates its commitment to combating criminality county-wide,” the service said.

It urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement officers and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
