Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has scolded President William Ruto, warning him that the Mt Kenya residents will eat his money but will not vote for him as president in the upcoming 2027 polls.

Speaking on Saturday, September 13, 2025, in Mt Kenya, Gachagua accused Ruto of betraying the community after it had overwhelmingly voted for his presidential bid in 2022.

“You are saying you will buy everybody. Let me tell you, your money will be eaten by these people, but you will not get even a single vote,” he stated.

“We voted you in after you with the bible, but you’re now turned against Us. Everyone who despises this community,” he added.

Presidency bid

His sentiments come after he expressed his bid for the country’s top job with reforms he intends to implement should he be the United Opposition’s flagbearer in 2027.

Gachagua, who backed himself as the surest bet to oust President Ruto, pledged to make extensive reforms in healthcare and education.

“Na mimi sasa Wakenya wameniambia baada ya kupima wameona dawa ya kufukuza Kasongo ni Riggy G, kwa hivyo Wakenya wameniambia nipiganie kiti cha urais wa Jamhuri ya Kenya. Wangapi wataniunga mkono?”

He further vouched that upon assumption of office, he will reform the education sector and make sure that education is free for all, just like former president Mwai Kibaki had envisioned.

Kazi ya kwanza nikiwa rais ni kurekebisha masomo. Watoto walipiwe masomo ya bure ambayo ililetwa na Mwai Kibaki,” he added.

The former DP had also lashed out at a section of Murang’a leaders who visited Ruto at State House, branding them as traitors.

“These are the true leaders of the Murang’a people, and I ask the people to take note of the traitors in State House, those who are selling their people for money. They should take note and in two years elect people who can represent them and not sell their birthright,” he stated.

“Please take the money and use it when you get back home, but don’t sell your conscience or soul if you do, the people of Murang’a will punish you,” he told the people.

“What is happening is a strategy to divide the people of the mountain. He had done so with people of Meru and also from Kiambu,” he added.
