Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has laid out reforms he plans to implement should he be the United Opposition’s flagbearer in 2027.

While addressing a roadside rally in Ruuiru town on Saturday, September 13, 2025, he stated that Kenyans have settled on him as the most suitable leader to send Ruto home in 2027.

“Na mimi sasa Wakenya wameniambia baada ya kupima wameona dawa ya kufukuza Kasongo ni Riggy G, kwa hivyo Wakenya wameniambia nipiganie kiti cha urais wa Jamhuri ya Kenya. Wangapi wataniunga mkono?”

He further vouched that upon assumption of office, he will reform the education sector and make sure that education is free for all, just like former president Mwai Kibaki had envisioned.

“Kazi ya kwanza nikiwa rais ni kurekebisha masomo. Watoto walipiwe masomo ya bure ambayo ililetwa na Mwai Kibaki,” he added.

He also assured Kenyans free health services and the scrapping of the housing levy that is being deducted from the salaries of Kenyans.

“Nitaweka madawa kwa mahospitali; kina mama wakienda kujifungua wasilipe chochote. Kazi ya tatu ni hii kodi ameweka ya housing fund; nitaipiga marufuku.” He added.

He further urged young people to register as voters so as to join the rest of the country in sending President Ruto home.

Pleading with Mt Kenya

This comes days after him urging his community to elect any leader that the opposition will front, even if it’s not him.

While speaking in Nyandarua during a church service on Sunday, September 7, 2025, he called upon Mt Kenya locals to vote for any candidate the united opposition will settle on.

With the united opposition having held a series of meetings in the recent past, he stated that as coalition principals who are also interested in the top seat, they have decided that at the right time, they will settle on one candidate and shelve their personal ambitions, with the rest throwing their weight behind the chosen candidate.

According to Gachagua, even if it’s not him being the flagbearer of the opposition, his community should not be worried but just vote for the leader, since he is also part of it, but in the event he is given the ticket, he will make sure President Ruto is a one-term president.

“Natumekubaliana tutatoa candidate mmoja; tukisikizana ni Kalonzo, simtapigia yeye kura; tukisikizana ni Matiang’i, simtampigia kura; Eugene, Martha Karua na mimi pia simtatupigia kura.”
