A Jambojet flight from Nairobi to Kisumu was cancelled on Sunday morning, July 26, 2026, after the aircraft developed a technical problem before take-off, forcing the airline to abort the flight as a safety precaution.

In a post shared on its Facebook account on Sunday, July 26, 2026, Jambo said Flight JM 8650, operated by aircraft 5Y-JXL, was scheduled to depart from Nairobi for Kisumu at about 6:00 am on July 26, 2026.

Take-off aborted

In a statement, Jambojet said the aircraft experienced a system caution before take-off, prompting the crew to stop the departure process.

“Jambojet wishes to confirm that at approximately 0600hrs today, flight JM 8650, operated on 5Y-JXL, from Nairobi to Kisumu experienced a system caution alert before takeoff and as a safety precaution, takeoff was aborted,” the airline said.

The aircraft was then moved back to the bay for further technical assessment by the airline’s maintenance team.

Aircraft taken for technical checks

Jambojet said no further details on the technical issue had been released as the aircraft underwent evaluation.

“We can confirm all the guests and crew safely disembarked from the aircraft, and received the necessary assistance from our team on ground. The aircraft was safely moved back to the bay for technical evaluation by our maintenance team,” the airline said.

The incident affected passengers travelling on the morning flight from Nairobi to Kisumu, with the airline apologising for the disruption.

The airline said the decision to abort take-off was made as a precaution to protect the safety of passengers and crew.

“We sincerely apologise for the distress and inconvenience this incident may have caused and assure that the safety and well-being of our guests and crew remain our top priority,” Jambojet said.

The airline did not immediately provide details on whether the flight would be rescheduled or the arrangements made for affected passengers.

The incident comes as airlines continue to emphasise strict safety procedures that require flights to be halted whenever a technical warning is detected before departure.
