Eugene Wamalwa demands IEBC cancels Smartmatics contract, probes Venezuelan team at State House
As Kenyans celebrated the 81st birthday of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the Democratic Action Party (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa used the occasion to raise fresh concerns over the management of the elections and the controversial Smartmatic contract.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Wamalwa said the truth about the Venezuelan company Smartmatic has been laid bare and that Raila Odinga’s demand for the opening of the servers is validated.

“Baba Raila Odinga, on your 81st birthday, the truth about the Venezuelan Smartmatic electoral fraud is out and your demand for opening of the servers for verification of vifaranga via computer election heist is validated!” Eugene Wamalwa said.
Speaking in Kipipiri, Wamalwa called for immediate accountability at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), demanding decisive action against officials he accuses of mismanagement.
“As the People’s United Opposition, we demanded in Kipipiri today, the immediate cancellation of the Smartmatics contract, which was illegally extended by IEBC Kenya CEO Marjan Marjan last year and his summary dismissal and prosecution for abuse of office,” Wamalwa added.

He further challenged the government to provide clarity on the role of foreign actors in Kenya’s electoral process, raising questions about the presence of a Venezuelan team allegedly involved in last year’s election operations.
“We also dared the Ruto Regime to tell Kenyans what the Smartmatics Venezuelans team led by Jose Carmago was doing at Statehouse in July 2025 with IEBC officials,” Wamalwa stated.

The DAP-K party leader argued that the lack of transparency in the handling of Smartmatics, a company responsible for electronic election systems, threatens public trust in Kenya’s electoral process. He said verification of the servers is critical to ensuring credible elections and safeguarding the democratic process.
Wamalwa questioned electoral integrity in Kenya, calling for reforms in how technology is deployed in elections. He raised concerns over the management of election contracts and foreign involvement in sensitive national processes.
