Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has praised the recently installed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader, Oburu Odinga, for his management of dissenting voices within the party.

Speaking during an interview on a morning radio show on Tuesday, November 13, 2025, Amisi said that few had expected Oburu to exercise the level of leadership he has showcased since taking over the party.

He commended him for bringing dissenting voices to the table and engaging them in discussions on the way forward for the party without vilifying them or labelling them as moles of the United Opposition or allies of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Amisi pointed out that since assuming leadership, Oburu has held meetings with Embakasi MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who have expressed differing views on the party’s direction.

“And I want to, I want to really give it to Oburu Odinga, because people never expected that he would actually, you know, show some level of leadership. I saw him call Babo, you know; I saw him call Sifuna. You know, I have seen him calling people of this dissent and voices and saying, No, we are. We will. We will. Will not just be in a broad base. We will make a decision later,” Amisi said.

He criticised other leaders, such as Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, for failing to demonstrate leadership despite holding prominent positions within the party.

According to Amisi, her speech during Raila Odinga’s burial indicated a limited understanding of Raila’s legacy, as she spent much of it praising the government while declaring that ODM would remain in opposition.

Speeches during Raila’s burial

He further drew parallels with the speeches delivered by Oburu and Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga during the same burial, noting that their messages were more reflective of what Raila stood for.

“You can see the speeches of Ruth Odinga. These are siblings to the enigma. They grew up together and have seen Raila since he was just a child. Now, can you compare those speeches with Wanga’s?” Amisi said.

According to Amisi, these leaders are the ones best positioned to guide the party effectively.
