Raila Junior holds talks with uncle Oburu during breakfast meeting
Raila Odinga Junior has shared a glimpse of his personal life after spending a morning with his uncle, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, amid continued public interest in the Odinga family’s leadership and political succession involving the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In a post on his X account on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Raila Junior said some of the most meaningful conversations happen over a shared meal as he expressed gratitude for the time spent with Oburu at his home.
“Some of the best conversations happen over a shared meal. Grateful for the morning spent with my uncle, Oburu, at his home,” he said.

The meeting comes amid continued public interest in the leadership of the Odinga family following the traditional installation of Raila Junior as the head of his late father’s home.
Family leadership
Oburu previously clarified that the installation was a family affair and did not signify a political succession.
Speaking ahead of the ceremony held in Nondo in October 2025, Oburu said the ritual was intended to empower Raila Junior to take charge of his family home under the guidance of his mother, Mama Ida Odinga.

“This ceremony is symbolically meant to give the son of my late brother, Raila Amolo Odinga, his son, Raila Junior, the seat of power of the home, not political leadership,” Oburu said.
The senator said Raila Junior would lead the home according to Luo traditions while remaining under the guidance of his mother.
“He must stand firm and lead the home as per our culture. This is not political leadership but leadership of the home. The larger Odinga family, which I share and lead, still remains under my guidance,” Oburu added.

Installation ceremony
The ceremony saw Raila Junior formally installed as head of the Odinga home through a traditional ritual that included shaving him while seated on a stool.
He was also handed a spear and shield, symbols of authority and responsibility within the family.
The latest meeting between Raila Junior and Oburu comes as the Odinga family continues to attract public attention following the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and the subsequent transition of family leadership.
